  • Embarking on a successful career in accounting requires more than just a degree and technical skills.

    It is in light of the above that the Governing Council establish the Young Accountants’ Development Committee (YADC) to provide the right directions to the Young Professional Accountants.

The Young Accountants could be defined as professionals who are 30 years of age and below; and whose induction period falls from year 0 (2020) to year 5 (2025). This moves as the year progresses. This is as approved by the Council.




TERMS OF REFERENCE

The Terms of Reference of YADC include the following:


  • Develop and adopt strategies for diversifying young professional accountants beyond accounting and taxes into other areas of competitive business analysis, business budgeting and forecasting, investor due diligence, exit and succession planning, social and environmental accounting.

  • How: By holding town hall meetings/creating a mentorship program and matching accounting professionals in these fields to young professional accountants.


    Additionally, Town Hall meetings will cover Young Accountants events, Annual Accountants Conference, at Zonal Conferences, at District Meetings and at State District Co-ordinated Forums.

  • Liaise with the IT department of the Institute for the purpose of developing an accounting practice website that should have free, helpful resources and informative guides mainly aimed at making YPA adapt to the ever-changing career landscape by making them more digitally savvy and abreast of new realities.

  • How: The Institute can create the website, collate links of articles on themed topics monthly; also host webinars with topics at the intersection of technology and accounting. E.g. new IFRS Laws, treatments and impact on reporting for tech businesses.


  • Develop and implement forward thinking, technology driven, proactive and thoughtful approaches, for the continuous education of young professional accountants.

  • How: Set up a think tank, also research how the other global bodies are handling continuous education for the YPA’s.


  • Design and develop a basic mentorship program for young Chartered Accountants with interest in politics.

  • How: By organizing town hall meetings, seminars and or mentorship programme featuring established Chartered Accountants Politicians of note for Young Professional Accountants.

  • TOWN HALL MEETINGS

    The Council at its meeting of September 28, 2023, has approved the hosting of Annual Accountants’ Conference Revolution (Town Hall meetings) Workshop on yearly basis. This is aimed at preparing its members to excel in their careers, stay updated on industry trends, and expand their professional networks through interactive sessions.
