The ICAN President, Hajia Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, mni, MBA, FCA, the Vice President is a seasoned, accomplished and highly versatile Chartered Accountant and Tax administrator with expertise in diverse fields of Accounting, Finance, Management including taxation, audit and assurance, corporate governance, strategy, leadership and dispute resolution.
Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business Administration of Auchi Polytechnic, a B.A. Degree in Accounting and Finance of the University of Derby and an MBA Degree from Enugu State University. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and currently the Vice President of the institute. Seghosime is also a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, having attended the Senior Executive Course 34, in 2012 and awarded the prestigious honour of member of the national institute (mni). She is also an alumnus of Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA and of the Jesus College, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Her working experience spans over 40 years in both the private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy. She started her professional accounting career at BDO Balogun Badejo & Co. (Chartered Accountants) where she spent about 12 years and rose to the position of Senior Audit Manager. From BDO Balogun Badejo & Co. she joined the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) where she served for about 22 years and occupied various senior and top management positions including the position of Coordinating Director, Compliance and Enforcement Group with supervisory responsibilities over functional departments and units including tax audit, tax investigations, legal, tax policy and advisory and board secretariat. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer/ Head Advisory Services at Quebaan Professional Services, a firm of Chartered Accountants. As a management expert, the Vice President has used her vast private and public sector experience and professional acumen to advise and support organizations achieve their strategic objectives in the formulation, preparation and effective and efficient implementation of their long-term strategic plans. She was first elected to the Council of ICAN in 2014 and served the Institute meritoriously in different capacities before her election into the Presidency. As a team player, the Vice President has worked collaboratively with her colleagues to promote ICAN and enhance its status as a respected and sought after brand both nationally and internationally. She was also an Honourable Commissioner/Member of the Tax Appeal Tribunal and member of the Board of the Nigerian Accounting Standards Board, now called the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC). Seghosime has earned several commendations, awards and recognitions in the course of her career. She was part of the team that carried out reforms at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), leading to the achievement of administrative and financial autonomy for the Service in 2007. She represented the Service on various international committees such as the Management Committee of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA), Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax and Technical Committee of the FIRS Board. Seghosime is an avid golfer and enjoys reading, travelling and mentoring young accountants.
